CABLE PATTERN 1 (Worked over 11 sts) Row 1 (RS): (P1, k4) twice, p1. Row 2: (K1, p4) twice, k1. Row 3: (P1, CF4) twice, p1. Row 4: Rep Row 2. Rep these 4 rows for Cable Pat 1.
CABLE PATTERN 2 (Worked over 13 sts) Foundation Row (WS): P4, k2, p4, k1, p2. Row 1 (RS): K2, p1, CF4, p2, CF4. Row 2 and all WS rows: K the k sts and p the p sts as they face you. Row 3: K2, T3B, T3F, T3B, k2. Row 5: CF4, p2, CF4, p1, k2. Row 7: K2, T3F, T3B, T3F, k2. Row 8: Rep Row 2. Rep these 8 rows for Cable Pat 2.
BACK Cabled Band: With smaller straight needles, cast on 11 sts. Work even in Cable Pat 1 for 11(13-15-17-19)”, end on WS. Bind off. Upper Section: With RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k66(76-86-96-106) sts evenly spaced along left side edge of cabled band. Set-Up Row (WS): K7, p4, k1, p4, k3, work Foundation Row of Cable Pat 2 over 13 sts, place marker, k2(12-22-32-42), place marker, work Foundation Row of Cable Pat 2 over 13 sts, k3, p4, k1, p4, k7. Inc Row (RS): P6, work Row 1 of Cable Pat 1 over 11 sts, p2, work Row 1 of Cable Pat 2 to marker, M1p, p to next marker, M1p, sl marker, work Row 1 of Cable Pat 2 over 13 sts, p2, work Row 1 of Cable Pat 1 over 11 sts, p6 – 68(78-88-98-108) sts. Dec Row (RS): P1, (p2 tog, p1) 3 times, (p2 tog) twice, drop marker, p to next marker, drop marker, (p2 tog) twice, (p1, p2 tog) 3 times, p1 – 50(60-70-80-90) sts. Beg with a k row, work even in Reverse St st until armholes measure 7 1/2(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS. Shape Shoulders: Bind off 3(4-6-8-9) sts at beg of the next 4 rows, then 2(5-6-7-10) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 34 sts.
LEFT FRONT Cabled Band: With smaller straight needles, cast on 11 sts. Work even in Cable Pat 1 for 5 1/4(6 1/4-7 1/4-8 1/4-9 1/4)”, end on WS. Bind off. Upper Section: With RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k33(38-43-48-53) sts along left side edge of cabled band. Set-Up Row (WS): k6, work Foundation Row of Cable Pat 2 over 13 sts, k3, p4, k1, p4, k7. Inc Row (RS): P6, work Row 1 of Cable Pat 1 over 11 sts, p2, work Row 1 of Cable Pat 2 to marker, M1p, p1(6-11-16-21) – 34(39-44-49-54) sts. Next Row: K to marker, work Row 2 of Cable Pat over 13 sts, k2, work Row 2 of Cable Pat 1 over 11 sts, k6. Work in pats as established, continuing to inc 1 st after marker every RS row 14 times more. AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at beg of RS rows every 1 1/2” 3 times. When piece measures 4(4-4 1/2-5-5 1/2)” from picked-up sts, (before all decs and incs have been completed), end on WS. Continuing to work decs and incs as before, shape neck as follow: Shape Neck: Dec Row (RS): Work to last 3 sts, p2 tog, p1. Still continuing to work decs and incs, rep this neck dec every RS row twice more, then every other RS row 14 times. When all incs at marker and decs at beg of RS rows have been completed, work even at those points, continuing to work neck decs until piece measures 6” above picked-up sts, end on WS. Shape armhole same as back. When armhole decs have been completed, dec 5 sts across top of Cable Pat 2 as on back and work all sts in Reverse St st. When all neck decs have been completed, work even on 8(13-18-23-28) sts until armhole measures 7 1/2(7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS. Shape Shoulder: Bind off 3(4-6-8-9) sts at armhole edge twice, then 2(5-6-7-10) sts once.
RIGHT FRONT Work same as left front reversing all shaping and placement of cable pats. Set-Up Row (RS): K7, p4, k1, p4, k3, work Foundation Row of Cable Pat 2 over 13 sts, k6. Work incs on RS rows before marker. Work decs at end of RS rows. Work neck decs at beg of RS rows as p1, p2 tog. Bind off for armhole and shoulder on WS rows. Work armhole decs at end of RS rows.
SLEEVES With smaller straight needles, cast on 58(58-62-66-70) sts. Ribbing: Row 1 (RS): K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across. Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until sleeve measures 2 1/2”, end on WS, dec 5 sts across last row – 53(53-57-61-65) sts. Change to larger needles. Establish Pat St: Row 1 (RS): P21(21-23-25-27), place marker, work Row 1 of Cable Pat 1 over 11 sts, place marker, p to end. Row 2: K to first marker, work Row 2 of Cable Pat 1 to next marker, k to end. Work in pat as established, inc 1 st each side every 1/2” 4 times, working incs in Reverse St st – 61(61-65-69-73) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 5 1/2” from beg, end on WS. Shape Cap: Bind off 5 sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 51(51-55-59-63) sts. Dec 1 st each side every RS row 10 times, then every other RS row 4 times, end on WS – 23(23-27-31-35) sts. Bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 19(19-23-27-31) sts.
FINISHING Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Lower Ribbing: With RS facing, using circular needle, working along right side edge of cabled bands, pick up and k32(37-42-47-52) sts along left front, 90(100-110-120-130) sts along back, then 32(37-42-47-52) sts along right front – 154(174-194-214-234) sts. DO NOT join. Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as sleeves for 4”, end on WS. Bind off loosely in ribbing. Left Collar/Frontband: With smaller straight needles, cast on 158(158-162-166-170) sts. Work in ribbing same as sleeves for 2”, end on WS. Shape Collar: Next Row (RS): Bind off 40 sts, work to end – 118(118-122-126-130) sts. Work 1 row even. Bind off 12 sts at beg of the next RS row, then 4 sts at beg of the next 21 RS rows, end on WS. Bind off remaining 22(22-26-30-34) sts. Right Collar/Frontband: Work to correspond to left collar/frontband reversing shaping by binding off at beg of WS rows. Sew long side edges of collar/frontbands tog. Sew bound-off edge of collar/frontbands to front and neck edges of garment with seam at center back neck.
