CAPE
First, measure your dog. Measure from neck to point on back where you wish the cape to stop. This is the length. Next, measure from low on one side of dog, across back and down the other side. This is the width.
With straight needles, cast on approximately 2 1/2 stitches for each 1” of width. Please use a multiple of 4 + 2. Note: For our width of 13 1/2”, we cast on 34 sts.
Row 1 (RS): K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.
Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 2” from beg, end on WS. Work even in Garter St until piece measures 1” less than desired length, end on RS. Dec 1 st at each end of the next 3 rows. Bind off remaining sts. Join yarn at cast-on edge of cape and work in Reverse Sc down 1 side, around bound-off edge, then up 2nd side. Fasten off. Try cape on dog and measure under neck and around tummy to determine length of ties needed. Sew a piece of ribbon (or cord for a more masculine look) to each side of ribbing at neck (to tie around neck) and again at midpoint on each side edge (to tie under the tummy). We sewed 2 buttons to each side edge for a little extra style. Have fun with trimming your little (or big) friend’s cape. Every dog deserves a designer’s original.

HAT
With crochet hook, ch 4. Join with a sl st to form ring. Ch 8 and join with a sl st in ring (this forms loop at top of hat). Ch 3, then work 7 dc’s in ring, join with a sl st in 3rd st of ch. Work in rounds, increasing as desired so that work lies flat. When hat is desired diameter, fasten off.
Measure around your dog’s ear. Mark position of back and front of each ear on edge of hat. Join yarn at 1st marker. Make a ch long enough to fit around ear, join with a sl st at 2nd marker. Work in Reverse Sc back along ch to 1st marker, join with a sl st in edge of hat. Fasten off. Repeat for 2nd ear.
