Dear Knitters,
This week I am pleased to announce Berroco's "Great Summer
Giveaway." We
have posted instructions from four of our best selling books from
summers
past. Books 189, 190,
191 and 192
feature sweaters in Glace, Glace
Colors, Cotton Twist,
Pronto, Linet
and Metallic FX. You can have
your choice of
dozens of warm weather styles to knit for you and your little one.
These books contain some of our all time favorites including #1
Gretta
from our very first Basics Book #189. This is a favorite raglan
sleeve cardigan
with bold full fashioning. It's knit in Pronto in Lilac, but I would
love it in
Bleach White to go with
practically everything in my summer wardrobe.
It would also be nice in Blue
Jean Mix, which has a trendy space-dyed
effect that would look great with jeans.
Speaking of Pronto, there is a great little girl's sunflower cardigan
and
hat in book 192 called Susie &
Hat. This was so popular several seasons
ago when sunflowers were the hot trend.
A combination of basic knitting and crocheting skills is required
to
create this adorable set. To update this cardigan, I would suggest
that you do
the flowers in a rose color with green leaves on a background of
pink. Have a
look at Barbie Pink for
the main color, Conch
or Magenta for the flowers
and Kaboom for the leaves.
And, voila! The sunflowers become Zinnias! Or you can create a sweet
baby girl cardigan in pastels using Lemon Lollipop for the main
color and
crocheting flowers of Ballerina
Baby with leaves of Sweet
Pea.
Another favorite of mine is #6, Penny,
from Book 192.
I would knit it in Pronto but I would try carrying along Bubble
FX in the
stockinette portion. I think it would look adorable in Baby
Bubble with
Pronto in Sweet Violet.
You could use the same instructions because the Bubble FX doesn't
affect
the gauge. You could also work the garter bands in a contrasting
color. For
example, it would look very nice in Creamsicle
with Kaboom or Acanthus
trim.
You can see that simply changing
the colorway creates a whole new look.
There are several choices of free patterns to knit in Cotton
Twist as
well. For example, have a look at book 192 #2, Daisy.
I might like to see a
more creative, not-so-repetitive stripe pattern. You could choose
4 colors and
purchase equal amounts of each. Cork,
Clay, Sea Grass and Sprout
would
make a charming stripe pattern. And you can leave off the appliquéd
crocheted
daisy for a more sophisticated look.
Or, you might like to knit Daisy without striping it. Why not let
the
space-dyed look of Cotton
Twist Colors pattern itself? It would look
great knit in Secret
Garden or even Camouflage
for your hip little prankster.
You will want to check out our pattern
library, where you can browse for
other great free patterns!
Congratulations to Jeanne from Astoria, OR, the latest winner of
our
bi-monthly Free Sweater Kit contest. Jeanne has chosen to knit Pasha
from
our Book # 215.
I am looking forward to writing my next Knitbits. I can't wait to
show
you our new Fall/Winter '03-'04 collection. Our sales force claims
it's the
best collection yet. We have loads of new yarns, new colors in our
classic yarns and 4 new books full of projects for the ultra beginner
as well as
all other skill levels.
Till next time, keep knitting.
