Dear knitters and crocheters,
A huge topic in fashion is the
"new luxury." This is a result of a long
worldwide economic recession. Although many of the world's luxury
customers
are recession proof, there is a new general distaste for consumer
ostentation as well as a new desire for experience and culture rather
than
for possessions. More people are choosing to slow down and live
for
themselves rather than for the workplace and money. This is good
news. To
me in my knitting-centric universe it means to slow down and experience
the
making of something beautiful, something that lasts. It is all about
sustainable luxury, long-term satisfaction, comfort.
To experience the cultural and
emotional impact of handknitting yarns, one
need only take a trip to one's favorite yarn shop and behold the
glorious
display of colors and textures. Witness the intense concentration
and the
abundant enthusiasm of the customers and the sales force as the
individual
knitter selects their yarn and decides what to make. For many knitters,
the
sense of touch is their ultimate sense. For others, yarn presents
a visual
and tactile cocktail. This, I believe, is the reason that scarf
yarns have
become such a phenomenal trend.
Today, I am going to talk about
two new scarf yarns that Berroco is
introducing mid season . . . Sizzle
and Opulent FX.
Almost every member of our office
staff is knitting a Sizzle scarf. I find
it so satisfying to finally see my friends at Berroco excited about
knitting. We have written a simple
scarf recipe that any newbie can master.
It takes only one ball of Sizzle, a very well priced scarf yarn.
Sizzle is a shag polyester that
is space-dyed, creating very lovely color
effects. It's available in 7 popular colorways. This is a very forgiving
yarn and even the novice knitter doesn't hesitate to tackle this
simple
project. There seems to be a color on
our shade card for every preference.
For the connoisseur of fancy
yarns, Berroco has developed an elegant new
component yarn that is dyed to match our popular yarn, Quest. It's
called
Opulent FX and it
is opulent, indeed. When knit, it has the look of
precious pearls strung on a silken chain. Puffs of satin and poufs
of shiny
metallic give our unique yarn a very dressed up look.
Download a web
exclusive free scarf pattern using one ball of Opulent FX and
one
ball of Quest. This
luxurious scarf will be the perfect accessory for holiday parties.
Why not keep chill off in style?
In response to our last KnitBits,
which included free patterns for a
knitted chemo cap and scarflet, we have had many requests for crocheted
versions of these patterns. Chinchilla crochets a beautiful
version of this
soft and pretty set.
If you are in a scarf making
mood, you'll love the new section of our
website called Berroco Scarf Central.
We show you all of our scarf patterns
and also highlight our particularly scarf-friendly yarns.
THIS WEEK'S WINNER
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Congratulations to this week's winner of a free sweater kit, Arlene
in
Baltimore, Maryland. She has chosen to knit My
First Fringed Pullover from
book #222, My First Project.
BEGINNER'S Q & A
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
In my next Knitbits, I will introduce a section devoted to beginner
knitters. Many subscribers are novices and have questions that more
experienced knitters might take for granted. I invite the newbies
to email
questions to: info@berroco.com
Please understand I cannot answer
all of your questions, but I will select
one question each week and answer it in the simplest, most basic
terms.
All the best,
