Dear Knitters and Crocheters,
Last weekend I visited one of our favorite yarn shops for an open house event. I had a chance to meet many Berroco fans and get some good feedback on our products and website. I learned which yarns and projects are most loved by these customers. Again, scarves are the hands down winners. Many agreed that Berroco offers a terrific assortment of scarf yarns. For more about scarves, visit our "Scarf Central."

I had an opportunity to introduce everyone to Knitbits, and I demonstrated how to navigate our website. I hope that many of those knitters went home and subscribed and are reading this Knitbits today.

This week I will take you to the website for Lang Yarns of Switzerland. Many seasoned knitters know Lang as a leading purveyor of the finest quality luxury fibers, classic yarns, sock yarns and cutting edge novelties with a high fashion pattern collection. Berroco has had the honor of being the US distributor for Lang Yarns since 1993.View the Lang collection in English, click here..

One of our best selling Lang qualities is their popular sock yarn collection, Jawoll. Go to the links below and click on an image for more information about each sock yarn. Jawoll, Jawoll Sport , Jawoll Cotton , Jawoll Jacquard .

Lang's superior sock yarn is available in superwash wool and wool cotton blends. There is a bit of nylon to enhance the durability. Inside the skein is a special bonus - a spool of matching reinforcement yarn to carry along when knitting the toe and heel, the part that takes the most wear and tear. The Jawoll Jacquard yarn knits a jacquard pattern without having to work multiple yarn color changes. The special engineered dye technique allows you to simply knit and watch the pattern unfold before your eyes.

Another of my favorite yarns from Lang is Cashmere Luxe. A special cable twist allows you to knit a lofty, quick-knit cashmere sweater that will truly be a treasure. Tiffany and Lulu are two fabulous new novelties for Fall that create unique fantasy fabrics. Have a look at these and other great new yarns on the link below.

BEGINNER'S Q & A
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
In response to Knitbits #49, we have received many emails from our newbie knitters with questions about knitting. A subscriber named Kim wrote: "What style of sweater pattern is the easiest for a newbie to successfully make? I understand the terminology of knitting, basic stitches and feel I'm ready to try a larger project."

Let me begin my answer by showing you our "My First Project" book #222. All the sweaters in this book are constructed of basic rectangles that are sewn together at the shoulders. If there are sleeves to be knit, they are picked up and knit down from the armhole. This is the easiest way to ensure that the sleeve length will be right. There is no armhole or neck shaping.

Many sweater projects are abandoned when the neck and armhole shaping begins. We have been able to create some chic sweaters without shaping. One of my favorites is "My First Cardigan" knit in Uxbridge Tweed.

You simply knit 3 rectangles. You can choose to stripe them or not. You sew the shoulders, then pick up and knit the sleeves down decreasing to fit at the cuff. Then you seam the underarm and sideseams. You can place one large button at the neck and make a simple crocheted chain button loop. This is a no fail project that is sure to be a favorite. Just be sure that you knit a gauge swatch and that you block all pieces before seaming.
