Dear knitters and crocheters,

To all of my dear readers, it is no secret that Suede is my favorite yarn. I often bring you to our website to view the close-up of this fabulous ball of "animal friendly " Suede yarn.

Suede is not just sweater yarn. In fact, today we will explore knitting and crocheting accessories in Suede. Ever since I discovered this fabulous faux Suede ribbon yarn in Italy, I have been inspired to experiment with knitting needles and crochet hooks to create accessories. As a novice crocheter
unable to read a crochet pattern, I really only know one stitch. I was inspired to build a knitting bag that would look like a woven bag with an artisan color patterning in natural leather colors. I "invented" an easy, 2 color Fairisle technique in which I enclosed the unused color with a single crochet stitch in the alternate color. This gave the fabric extra strength and a horizontal corded look.

I was mesmerized as I watched the fabric unfold as if I was weaving a bag in a Southwestern Native American weaving technique. Our brilliant instruction writer painstakingly translated my experiment in crochet into an easy to follow instruction, published in book #225. I hope that all you knitters will be inspired to take up a crochet hook. It will open up a world of new possibilities.

For summer, you might also want to try crocheting the mesh cap Kathe. It is so cool and comfortable in a very hip way.

Not at all interested in crocheting? You might want to try knitting this great cabled belt, Joy. It makes a wonderful hip slung belt with this marvelous buckle from Durango Button Company.

A creative KnitBits subscriber, Roz Porter, allowed us to share her idea for a fringed cell phone bag. She's a machine knitter, but she translated her pattern into handknitting. You can choose to fringe it or not. It closes with a wooden button and loop and it's just the right size for my cell phone.
You will only need one ball of Suede to make this bag. Here is a free pattern that you are welcome to download.

BEGINNER'S Q&A
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Carole Parker, a KnitBits subscriber, wrote to tell us her method of keeping yarns from tangling when working with multiple yarns. She wrote, "What I do is place each skein individually in a zippered lock sandwich bag, snip a very small hole in one corner and feed the starting point through the hole. I use a different bag for each yarn used . . . works like a charm." Thanks for the tip Carole, I'll try it.

THIS WEEK'S WINNER

Congratulations to Marysa from Albany, NY, who is this week's winner of a Free Sweater Kit. Marysa will soon be knitting our sumptuous Pastiche throw.

Till next time, keep creating!
All the best,
Margery Winter
