Dear Knitters and Crocheters,
In my last Knitbits, I promised to tell you about the trade show in Columbus where we introduced our Fall/Winter '04-05 collection. It was such a busy show, but we did get a chance to take a few photographs of our show booth. (Photos 1, Photos 2)

The TNNA fashion show is the opener that allows the shop owners to have a tantalizing preview of the exhibitors' best. It was packed with great knit and crocheted items for the fall season. I worked backstage dressing models, but Warren Wheelock, the president of Berroco, had a seat in the front row. He managed to snap a few photographs of some of our sweaters coming down the runway.

I made a Suede Pocahontas outfit for the runway by layering a couple of
Belle Star skirts. One is worn as a poncho, the other as a skirt. I accessorized her outfit with some great high suede boots and a crocheted headband, belt and shoulder bag, which I covered with shell buttons (wampum). The shoulder bag is based on a Suede crocheted bucket bag from book #225, called Julie. Having painstakingly embellished the accessories with wampum, the Indian princess look was complete. Here is a closeup look at some of the details.

There was a round of applause when our Leslie sweater came down the catwalk on this lovely mannequin. The model was young, tall and thin and she looked spectacular in Leslie and a lace skirt layered over pants. The bling bling of Lazer FX and the crunchy sparkle of Crystal FX were only enhanced by the runway lights. After the show, every one stopped in the booth to have a closer look at the fabulous Belle Star skirt and Leslie sweater.

One of the favorite yarns at the show was our new soft ribbon yarn called Lullaby. Today we are posting a new Web Exclusive Free Pattern for a versatile V-necked tunic in Lullaby. Lullaby is as soft as a peach. It's perfect for baby items and soft enough for the baby in you. It's a Tactel® nylon ribbon that is available in 7 spacedyed shades.

The tunic is called Tammy. Go ahead and print out the instructions and go your local yarn shop to purchase Lullaby. For a look at all the other patterns in Lullaby, click below.

BEGINNER'S Q&A
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Wanda from Milford, CT is knitting the Pamela Throw throw and she writes,
"I am almost finished knitting the throw and I am dreading the fringing. Just the thought of measuring each strand and cutting it before I fringe it makes me tired. I want the fringes to be full and even and to look like the picture."

Wanda, I am so glad you wrote. I always look forward to fringing. The finishing makes all the difference. There is a quick way to cut the fringes before you begin the arduous task of pulling them through the "cast on" and "bind-off" edges. Simply cut a piece of cardboard that measures about an inch wider than the finished length of the fringe. Wrap the yarn around and around the cardboard until the board is full of wraps. Then cut all the fringe along one edge of the cardboard. The fringes will be released and all the pieces will all be exactly the same length. Then hold two pieces of fringe together and fold them in half. With a crochet hook, draw the center of the strands through the first stitch of the cast-on edge of throw, forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop. Pull firmly to fasten. In this manner, fasten fringe in each stitch or in every second stitch of cast on and bind off rows. Be sure to fringe in first and last stitch of row. Trim with good sharp scissors to even the fringe if necessary.

Here are some other fringe ideas: If you know simple macramé you might want to finish off the fringes with a simple alternating macramé knot. You may want to cut longer fringes for this. If you want to add beads, you can thread the fringes that have been fastened with a bead or beads and fasten with a double knot.
