KnitBits #78

Season's Greetings from Berroco

Dear Procrastiknitters,

Have you been planning to make knitted or crocheted gifts for many people on your list? Have you even gotten so far as to purchase yarn with every intention of making something in time for the holidays? Well, it’s December 17 and there is very little time left . . .

Here are some last minute gift and decoration ideas for you to make with those scarf yarns that didn’t quite make it on to your needles in time for gift giving. It’s now the eleventh hour but you still can make something out of your Berroco yarns that you can give as gifts or Decorative Scarf Organizeruse to decorate your own home. You can make a Decorative Scarf Organizer out of an old wooden hanger and 5 metal rings, double-sided cellophane tape and your leftover scarf yarns. I decorated this hanger with Quest, Zoom and Plume FX Metallic.  I simply wound the yarn around and around the hanger until it was completely covered and then I sewed the rings on with a tapestry needle and Quest.  Then I used a short length of ribbon from my leftover ribbon basket and tied it around the base of the hook and “voila!”  -  an elegant gift for the girl who has everything. If you are a speed knitter like I am, you still Marcus Scarfhave time to make a lovely Marcus Scarf to give with your hanger. I have made 5 Quest and Zap seed stitch scarves in different colors that I have displayed on the scarf organizer. You can knit one in an evening for that last minute gift.

Our Berroco yarns are so decorative that it inspired me to personalize my tree with yarn ornaments. I carefully wound some yarns into very neat and very round balls. When the balls were the desired size, I cut the yarn, leaving 8” to tie off and make loops to hang them on the tree. I did this easily by threading a tapestry needle and pulling the yarn and needle through the last few rounds of yarn on the ball, drawing it through and making a loop and then Ball Ornamentfastening it again and weaving in the end. When I take the tree down after Christmas, I will use the yarn that I have so carefully wound into balls to knit scarves.  “Waste not, want not.”

Happy Holidays,
