KnitBits #80

Dear KnitBits® subscribers,

2004-2005I hope that you all enjoyed your holidays. We have now successfully ushered in 2005 and I can finally present our Spring '05 collection.  It seems like ages ago that we started to source our 4 new yarns, create designs, knit samples and prepare for photography. After that there was the editing and arduous task of instruction writing and checking until finally, our group efforts can be presented seemingly effortlessly to our loyal readers.
Spring '05 Collection Book #231 Book #233 Book #232 Book #234
During those many months we spend launching a line I have the opportunity to discover so many new things and to watch style trends evolve, making it possible for us to keep our collection right in step with fashion. Well, Berroco is introducing 4 amazing new and unique yarns: Tutu™, GeM, Zodiac™ and Bling Bling™. This season's collection of 4 pattern books is filled with yarn crafts including knitting, crocheting, fringing and even hairpin lace making. The items include bags, hats, sweaters, dresses, skirts, bikinis, throws etc., etc.
4 New Berroco Yarns Tu Tu Bling Bling Zodiac Gem

Book #231 Knit, Crochet & More contains 18 items to knit, crochet or to craft on a hairpin lace tool. I am intrigued with how simple it is to create fabric with our ribbon yarns and a hairpin lace tool. You really don't have to have any knitting skills, you simply follow easy directions and you can create yards and yards of linear Book 231 - Danicafabric. In this collection we made some hairpin lace shawls Danica, Delta and Dagmar but my mind was dreaming of a variety of décor items including window treatments and table runners. Also in this book is a Berroco first: the Bo Bikini in Suede to knit or crochet.

Book #232 Inside & Out contains a wide variety of 28 items including ponchos, ponchettes, ponchinis, tunics, handbags, cell phone covers, purses, layette items, Book 232 - Carnabythrows and pillows. If you want to update your interior with color, take a look at Carnaby, our '60's modern throw and pillows knit in Tutu and a matching shade of Zen.

This season, there's something for everyone in Book #233 Forever Young. This book focuses on the fast Book 233 - Sophie Catherinegrowing group of knitting aficionados, generation Z. This is a bold new collection of 22 items that will tantalize our newfound knitting and crocheting siblings and introduce them to working with finer fashion yarns to create the extra special boutique look that they crave.

Book #234 Leisure Class is our fashion collection that Book 234 - Marcellatargets the Berroco Woman. It contains 19 styles that were inspired by runway fashion and interpreted in our new and existing yarns for Spring '05. Our Marcella halter-top is knit in Bling Bling.  You can wrap the long ties around your neck for a scarf, or cross them in back and tie them around the front at the waist. This clever little top can also be worn over a tight little t-shirt for a chic layered look.

BEGINNER'S Q & A

Georgene from cyberspace wrote: "I have made dozens of hairy eyelash scarves that all look alike. They are all different colors, but now I feel like a fashion victim that's stuck in time. I am tired of seeing myself coming and going. I am an individual and I would like to make something different. All I know is the knit stitch. Is there anyway I can make something different, a scarf that's warm and wooly with lots of color and yet soft and with a bit of shine?”

Georgene, I am so glad you asked. If you go to Scarf Central and get to this yarn swatch page you will see that by mixing several interesting yarns such as Medley™, Softy™ and Opulent FX™, you can have color, texture, softness, warmth and a bit of bling all in one lovely scarf. Just choose your favorite color combination and go to your local yarn shop. Once you get the feeling for yarn mixing, the sky's the limit to your self-expression. Knitting is a great way to assert your individuality.

I have just scratched the surface of the best Berroco Collection to date. I have so much more to tell you, but would you believe, cyberspace is limited?

All the best,
