Afghan Appeal

This week we are posting 2 free patterns. Madrid is from an archive of favorite afghans from our past and Alora is a newly created throw in Comfort™. Comfort has become the hands down choice of knitters and crocheters who are looking for a modern alternative to the basic acrylic worsted. I am certain that having experienced the superior qualities of Comfort’s super fine acrylic and nylon fibers and its multi-plied, sophisticated construction, knitters and crocheters will never settle for that old standard. Alora is a throw or lap rug that is knit in Comfort. A rectangle of cables rhythmically interlaced is surrounded by a bold frame of garter stitch.

For the crocheters we have resurrected an old favorite, Madrid from our library of home decor patterns. It’s a wave stitch afghan made in beautifully contrasting shades of Softwist™. For the non-wool enthusiasts, we have composed two alternate choices in Comfort; purple or green tone on tone incorporating a variegated shade in each swatch. We have photographed 2 large swatches for you to see. I know that there are many of you who will enjoy recoloring your own afghan. Speaking of afghans, I was presented with the most beautiful and original Ultra™Alpaca masterpiece for my birthday. Carla Scott, Adina Klein and Norah Gaughan each knit a strip in earthy spice tones. This afghan, inspired by African textiles, was presented to me at a dinner in Long Beach. I was so surprised and thrilled. I have knit many a piece for an afghan that was a communal gift for others, but never before had anyone made one for me. I was touched by all the time and love that went into this piece.
