40″ length circular knitting needle, size 5 (3.75 mm) or size to obtain gauge
2 double pointed knitting needles (dpns), size 5 (3.75 mm)
Waste yarn for provisional cast-on
GAUGE
17 sts and 48 rows = 4″ in Garter St (unblocked)
16 sts and 41 rows = 4″ in Garter St (after blocking)

NOTE
Original cast-on for shawl is a provisional cast-on. Shaping is done using short rows. Sts for edging are cast on, then edging is added to body of shawl as you work.
