Twelve miniature sweater ornaments knit in Comfort DK. Or make the original Minutia set from 2007.

Body

Front: With straight needles, using A, cast on 17 sts.  Knit 2 rows.

Rows 1, 3 and 5 (RS):  With A, k1, * with B, k1, with A, k1, rep from * across.

Rows 2, 4 and 6:  With B, p1, * with A, p1, with B, p1, rep from * across.

Rows 7 and 8:  With A, knit.

Rows 9, 11 and 13 (RS):  With A, k1, * with C, k1, with A, k1, rep from * across.

Rows 10, 12 and 14:  With C, p1, * with A, p1, with C, p1, rep from * across.  Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes.

Rows 15 – 22:  With A, knit.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  With A, k4, bind off 9 sts, k to end.

Following Row:  With A, k4, cast on 9 sts, k to end – 17 sts.

Back:  Rep Rows 15 – 22 of front.  Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes.  Rep Rows 9 – 14 of front.  Rep Rows 7 and 8 of front.  Rep Rows 1 – 6 of front, end on WS.  With A, knit 2 rows.  Bind off.


Sleeves

With RS facing, using straight needles and A, pick up and k13 sts between markers.  Knit 1 row.  Rep Rows 9 – 12 of front, end on WS.  With A, knit 2 rows.  Bind off.  Sew side and sleeve seams.

Finishing

Neckband:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, join A with a sl st at center back neck, work 16 sc’s around entire neck edge, join with a sl st in first sc.  DO NOT turn.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1.  Fasten off.  Cut three 10” long strands of each color.  Thread strands into tapestry needle and, beg and end at center front neck, weave strands in and out around neckband.  Tie in bow as in photo.  Trim ends.


Finished Measurements

Approximately 5 1/2” across sleeves x 3 1/4” high

Row 4:  K3, p2, CB4, p2, k3.

Row 6:  Rep Row 2.

Row 8:  Rep Row 4.

Finishing

Sew side and sleeve seams.

Note

Body is worked in 1 piece to armholes, then split for back and fronts.  We suggest that you wind 2 small balls of yarn off of original ball so that back and fronts all be worked at the same time. Sleeves are picked up with dpn’s and work down in the round.


Body

With straight needles, cast on 20 sts.  Knit 1 rows.

Row 1 (RS):  K2, place marker, k16, place marker, k2.

Row 2:  K2, p16, k2.  From here, work in St, keeping 2 sts at each end in Garter St.

Row 3 (Inc Row):  K2, sl marker, M1k, k to next marker, M1k, sl marker, k2 – 22 sts.  Rep this inc every 4th row 3 times more – 28 sts.  Work even until piece measures 2 3/4” from beg, end on WS.

Buttonband:  Next Row (RS):  Cast on 3 sts, k to marker, sl marker, k to end – 31 sts.

Following Row (WS):  Cast on 3 sts, k to marker, sl marker, p5, join another ball of yarn and bind off 1 st, p until there are 12 sts on RH needle after bound-off st, join another ball of yarn and p to last marker, k to end – 10 sts for each front and 12 sts for back. Working all sections at once, keeping 5 sts at each front edge in Garter St and remaining sts in St st, work even until armholes measure 3/4”, end on WS.

Shape Front Neck:  Bind off 5 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, dropping markers – 5 sts for each front and 12 sts for back.  Working all sts in St st, dec 1 st at each end (front neck edges) every RS row twice – 3 sts for each front and 12 sts for back.  Work even if necessary until armholes measure 1 1/4”, end on WS.  Bind off all sts.  Sew shoulder seams.


Sleeves

With RS facing, using dpn’s, beg at underarm, pick up and k12 sts around entire armhole.  Divide sts onto 3 dpn’s (4 sts per needle).  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) for 1 1/4”.  Purl 1 row.  Knit 1 row.  Bind off.


Finishing

Lap right buttonband over left buttonband and sew button in center.

Sleeves

With RS facing, using straight needles and A, pick up and k11 sts along edge of back and front yoke.

Row 1 (WS):  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until sleeve measures 1 1/2”, end on WS.  Bind off knitwise.


Finishing

Sew side and sleeve seams.

Neckband:  With RS facing, using dpn’s, beg at center back neck, pick up and k20 sts around entire neck edge.  Divide sts on 3 needles.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 3 rnds.  Bind off in ribbing.

Tie:  With crochet hook, make chain approximately 10” long.  Thread end of chain into tapestry needle and, beg and end at center front, weave in and out at lower edge of Yoke.  Tie in a bow as in photo.

Neckband:  With crochet hook, join A with a sl st at center back neck, work 15 sc’s around entire neck edge, join with a sl st in first sc.  DO NOT turn.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1.  Fasten off.

Bow:  With crochet hook and B, make a chain 5” long.  Change to C and continue chain until it measures 10” from beg.  Fasten off.  Tie chain in a bow and sew to center front of neckband as in photo.

Inc Row (RS):  K3, * k1, M1k, rep from * 4 times more, k3 – 16 sts.  Purl 1 row, knit 1 row, purl 1 row.

Dec Row/Bind-off (RS):  * K2 tog, rep from * across, binding off sts as you work.  Fasten off.


Finishing

Sew side and sleeve seams.

Neckband:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, join MC with a sl st at center back neck, work 16 sc’s around entire neck edge, join with a sl st in first sc.  Fasten off.  Using tapestry needle and CC, whipstitch around neck, sleeve and lower edges.  Cut two 8” long strands of CC.  Tie in a bow and sew to center front neck as in photo.

Finishing

Turtleneck:  With RS facing, using dpn’s, beg at center back neck, pick up and k16 sts around entire neck edge.  Divide sts onto 3 needles.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work in k2, p2 ribbing for 1”.  Bind off in ribbing.  Fold down to RS.

Tie:  With crochet hook, make a 10” long chain.  Thread chain through tapestry needle and, beg and end at center front, weave in and out of sweater 1 1/2” up from lower edge.  Tie as in photo.

Sweater is worked entirely in one piece, starting at lower front edge and working to lower back edge.  Sts are cast on, then bound off for sleeves


Pattern Stitch

Row 1 (RS):  With A, k1, * bring yarn to front, sl 1, bring yarn to back, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2:  With A, p2, * bring yarn to back, sl 1, p1, rep from * to last st, end p1.

Rows 3 and 4:  With B, rep Rows 1 and 2.

Rep these 4 rows for Pat St.


Front

With straight needles, using A, cast on 17 sts.  Knit 2 rows.  Join B and work even in Pat St until piece measures approximately 2 1/4” from beg, end on Row 4.

Shape Sleeves:  With A, working in pat as established, cast on 10 sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 37 sts.  Work even in pat as established for 4 rows, end on Row 2 of Pat St.

Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  With A, rep Row 1 of Pat St, work 15 sts, bind off center 7 sts, work to end.

Following Row (WS):  With A, rep Row 2 of Pat St, work 15 sts, cast on 7 sts, work to end – 37 sts. 

Back:  Beg with Row 1, using A, work even in Pat St for 4 rows.  With A, working in Pat St, bind off 10 sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 17 sts.  Beg with Row 3, using B, work even in Pat St until piece measures approximately 2 ¼” above sts bound off at end of sleeves, end on Row 2 of Pat St.  Knit 2 rows.  Bind off.


Finishing

Sew side and sleeve seams.

Neckband:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, join A at center of back neck with a sl st.  Work 14 sc’s around entire neck edge, join with a sl st in first sc.  DO NOT turn.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, work 1 sc in each sc around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1.  Fasten off.

Tie:  With crochet hook, using A, make a chain 8” long.  Tie in a bow and sew to center front neck as in photo.


Finished Measurements

Approximately 5” across bottom edge x 3” high (including neckband)

Gauge

22 sts = 4”;  32 rnds = 4” in St st

Poncho is worked from the neck down.


Poncho

With dpn’s, using MC, cast on 12 sts.  Divide sts evenly on 3 dpn’s (4 sts per needle).  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in St st (k EVERY rnd) for 4 rnds.

Inc Rnd:  * K1, M1k, k to last st on needle, M1k, k1, rep from * twice more – 18 sts. Work 2 rnds even.  Continue in this manner to rep Inc Rnd every 3rd rnd 5 times more – 48 sts.  Work even until piece measures 2 3/4” from beg.  Change to B and knit 1 rnd, then purl 1 rnd.  Bind off.


Finishing

Neckband:  With RS facing, using crochet hook, join CC in cast-on rnd with a sl st, work 13 sc’s around entire neck edge, join with a sl st in first sc.  Fasten off.

Tie:  Cut one 10” long strand each of MC and CC.  Thread strands into tapestry needle and weave in and out of poncho 1/2” down from neck edge.  Tie in bow as in photo.  Turn neck edge down to RS.

Embroidery:  With tapestry needle and A, work 4-petal lazy daisy flowers as shown in photo.  Make French Knot centers with CC.
