Slippers (Make 2)

Bottom:  With straight needles, using MC, cast on 8 sts.  Work even in St st for 2 rows, end on WS.

Shape Heel:  Inc Row (RS):  K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 10 sts.  Rep this inc every RS row 5 times more, end on WS – 20 sts.  Mark beg and end of last row.  Work even until piece measures 6” (or desired length) from markers, end on WS.

Shape Toe:  Dec Row (RS):  K1, SSK, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 – 18 sts.  Rep this dec every RS row 5 times more, end on WS – 8 sts.  Knit 1 row, end on RS.  Mark beg and end of last row for turning point of toe.

Upper:  Purl 1 row, end on WS.

Shape Toe:  Inc Row (RS):  K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 10 sts.  Rep this inc every RS row 5 times more – 20 sts.  Work even until upper measures 3” from toe markers, end on WS.

Divide for Sides:  Next Row (RS):  K7, join another ball of MC and bind off center 6 sts, k to end – 7 sts each side.  Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each inner edge on next 2 rows – 5 sts each side.  Work even until sides, when folded back at toe markers, reach to heel markers, end on WS.

Shape Heel:  Inc 1 st at outer edge of each side on next row, then every 6th row once more – 7 sts each side.  Work even until sides, when slightly stretched, meet at center of cast-on edge, end on WS.  Knit 1 row on inner side of heel so that one side is on each needle.  With needles parallel and ends facing in the same direction, weave sts of sides tog using Kitchener St.

Finishing

Sew upper to bottom along sides.

Center Strap:  With straight needles, using MC, cast on 16 sts.

Row 1:  K9, bind off 6 sts.

Row 2:  K1, cast on 6 sts, k9.  Rep Rows 1 and 2 once more.  Bind off.  Sew short end of strap without holes to bound-off sts where toe was divided for sides.

Cross Strap:  With straight needles, using MC, cast on 26 sts.  Knit 2 rows.

Buttonhole Row:  K2, yo, k2 tog, k to end.  Knit 3 rows.  Bind off.  Sew short end of strap without hole to inner edge of side so that strap will fit through holes at end of center strap.  Note:  buttonholes should be on outer edge of foot.  Sew the strap of second slipper on the opposite side.

Edging:  With RS facing, using crochet hook and MC, beg at center back heel, work in sc along top edge of one side, around center strap, along top edge of the other side to cross strap, around cross strap and along remaining top edge of side.  Join with a sl st in first sc.  Fasten off.  Thread end of cross strap through holes in top of center strap.  Sew button to side of slipper under buttonhole.  With tapestry needle and A, embroider daisies on toe of slipper as in photo using lazy daisy st.  With B, embroider leaves using straight sts.  Sew on beads with sewing needle and matching thread.
